For many people, days like today can bring a mix of emotions. While some are celebrating, others may be feeling loneliness, grief, anxiety, or pressure to “feel happy” when they simply don’t.

If that’s you, take a breath. You’re not failing. You’re human.

And most importantly: your wellbeing matters and it isn’t optional.

Whether today feels tender, overwhelming, or just a little too much, here are six gentle ways to look after yourself today.

1. Be Kind to Yourself

Give yourself permission to feel whatever comes up.

You don’t have to force positivity or pretend you’re okay if you’re not. Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is simply acknowledge the truth of how we feel, without judgement.

Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you care about. Softly. Patiently. With compassion.

2. Reach Out to Someone You Trust

You don’t have to carry things alone.

If you’re struggling, consider reaching out to a friend, family member, or someone you feel safe with. Even a short message like:

“Hey, I’m finding today a bit hard — can we talk?”

can make a huge difference.

If you don’t have someone nearby, support lines and professional services are there for a reason. Asking for help is not weakness — it’s strength.

3. Move Your Body (Gently)

You don’t need an intense workout to support your mental health.

A short walk, a stretch, a slow yoga session, or even moving around your home can help release tension and shift your mood. Movement reminds your body that you’re safe, grounded, and still here.

Even five minutes counts.

4. Do Something You Enjoy

When the world feels heavy, returning to small joys can be powerful.

Try doing something that comforts you, such as:

  • watching a favourite film

  • reading a book

  • listening to music

  • journaling

  • crafting or drawing

  • cooking something warm and nourishing

You deserve moments of ease, even if life feels messy right now.

5. Limit Social Media

Social media can be especially difficult on days like today.

It’s full of highlight reels, romantic posts, and “perfect” moments — and even when we know it’s curated, it can still trigger comparison, sadness, or feelings of being left out.

Give yourself permission to log off.

Protecting your peace is an act of self-care.

6. Breathe and Pause

Sometimes the most powerful support comes from stillness.

Take a moment to pause and check in with yourself. Try a few slow breaths:

In through the nose…
Hold…
Out through the mouth…

Let your nervous system settle. Let your body unclench. Let yourself come back to the present moment.

You don’t have to solve everything today. You only have to take the next gentle step.

You Are Not Alone

If today feels hard, please remember: you are not alone, even if it feels that way. There is support available, and there are people who truly care.

If you need help, we’re here for you. Be gentle with yourself today. You deserve care, support, and kindness – always.
