Looking for fitness inspiration? Read about Karen’s marathon training

Hey Guys,

I am running the London Marathon in April 2016. Training has begun and I am enjoying pounding the pavements and looking forward to the challenge. Take a read of my experience so far and please don’t forget to donate! http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=KarenAtwalRimmer

“I am a keen runner and over that last 12 years have got progressively better. I did my first London Marathon in 2004 and was not into fitness in any way shape or form. In fact I would say that I hated the gym! I still managed to get round though which was quite an achievement. Since then I have completed several half marathons and the Royal parks being a favourite. What a wonderful City we live in and running through the glorious parks on a crisp October Sunday was amazing and I got a personal best out of it. Getting a place in the London Marathon via the ballot this year was such as surprise and I am very excited.

As I have a good foundation of training already and love exercising I have a balanced routine going on. My training plan is very varied from pure cycle based classes, which are great and buzzing. This I do at Psycle near work with a colleague and the instructor pushes you so much you leave feeling invigorated for Monday lunchtime. I run 3 times a week Tuesdays and Thursday are shorter, faster runs between 3.5 -7 miles and Saturday the long run at marathon pace. I have comfortably completed 13.1 miles on the long run so far. In between this I also have PT sessions on Wednesdays for strength and weight training. These sessions my husband and I do together and as we both have a competitive streak, so it makes it more challenging. Fridays and Sundays are rest days. I hope that this plan will work well over the next 86 days and for anybody looking to take up a similar routine I’ll keep you up to date with how I get on!”
Karen 🙂
