Marie’s Marathon Journey…so far

In July 2015 Sue (CEO Westmeria Counselling Services) mentioned to me that we had a place for a runner in the London Marathon next April. At the time I thought that sounds great I will go and support whoever is running the 26.2 miles.

As the days passed I started to think I could run a Marathon , I really have no idea why I was thinking like this as I hate running…..but I do like a challenge. So here I am five months later and guess what I actually like running (well most of the time)

Some days /evenings are harder that others today being one of them. I look outside, its raining and windy. Then I remind myself of the reasons I am doing this. Yes it is a personal challenge but it is also to help raise money for a charity close to my heart Westmeria Counselling Services which helps support people with mental health problems. Most of us know family members or friends who have gone through or are going through difficult periods in their live and a service like Westmeria is invaluable to help and support them in their recovery.

I have had a lot of time to think (a dangerous pastime for me) while in training for these 26.2 miles yes I know I keep putting in the 26.2 miles.

Sometimes problems can feel a bit like a Marathon never ending , exhausting, you just don’t want to go out and face the day (or in my case run)

I am learning that you don’t have to do it all at once . Like the long run you have to build up to it , take small steps (or in my case walk /run until you are strong enough to run all the way)

So now all I have to do is get out of my pyjamas into my training gear and leave the house…easy
